DEMPSEY SHATTERS LAP RECORD AND STUNS FELLOW COMPETITORS AT SEBRING

Peter Dempsey was ·6 of a second under the Star Mazda Lap record and 1·3 seconds quicker than anyone else at Sebring (Florida) yesterday (28th of January 2008).

Dempsey returned with the Andersen Racing Team for an official IMSA test at Sebring, this was Peter’s second visit to the famous Sebring circuit. Circuit knowledge and familiarity with his Mazda car put him in a very strong position and he made very good use of it.

In the opening session of the day Dempsey and the Andersen Racing Team were 2 seconds a lap quicker than anyone, with some changes to the car and good team strategy Peter did a blistering lap that was ·6 of a second under the lap record.

Peter said “I am really delighted, the team did a fantastic job to give me a great car, it was nice to do a good job for Dan (Dan Andersen team owner) as he has put a lot of faith in me. I hope to go even quicker tomorrow. ”

Dempsey has two sessions today 29th January he will use the first session to try for a time and the second to do a race distance. Race distance in the Star Mazda Championship is 40 minutes and in the heat it will be gruelling.
